The shapes are visually organized into groups for easy selection. The toolbox includes material properties for common engineering materials so that mass properties can be calculated.
Within each shape type, the Geometric Design Wizard presents a pallet of subtypes along with a form for inputting parameter values.
Once the properties for the selected shape are entered, the results are presented on the form and can then be embedded as a design parameter driven VBA function back on the Excel design summary worksheet. For the example below, the GDTCylEllipse() function was used which has 6 design parameters which can then be changed on the worksheet. At this point, Goal Seeker could be used to determine a size parameter needed to get a desired component weight.
Functions are embedded directly into worksheet ranges so that input parameters can be changed to achieve desired output. Functions can therefore be used inside worksheet iteration processes such as goal seeking, optimization using Solver, or Monte Carlo uncertainty analysis.
